"Naughty Marietta" est une opérette en deux actes, avec un livret de Rida Johnson Young et une musique de Victor Herbert. Elle a eu sa première représentation le 24 octobre 1910, à Syracuse, New York, et a ouvert ses portes à Broadway le 7 novembre 1910, jouant durant 136 représentations au New York Theatre . Il connut des reprises en 1929 au Jolson's 59th Street Theatre et en 1931 au Erlanger's Theatre. Cette opérette sera le plus grand succès de Victor Herbert.

Situé à la Nouvelle-Orléans en 1780, "Naughty Marietta" raconte comment le capitaine Richard Warrington est chargé de démasquer et de capturer un pirate français notoire qui se fait appeler "Bras Pique" – et comment il est aidé et entravé par une fugueuse pleine d'entrain, Contessa Marietta. La partition comprend de nombreuses chansons bien connues, dont "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life".
